biography
William Cabison returns this season as a Conducting Fellow at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, serving as Cover Conductor for JoAnn Falletta. Last season, he guest conducted with the orchestra.
Last season, he was Guest Supporting Conductor in Charles Ives’s Second Symphony at Lincoln Center (Mannes Orchestra) and was additionally Assistant Conductor and Assistant Coach for L'enfant et les sortilèges (Mannes Opera). His previous work includes Assistant Conductor for La Calisto (Mannes Opera), Assistant Conductor and Guest Conductor for In the Green (Mannes Opera), Guest Supporting Conductor for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, and Assistant Conductor of the Los Robles Master Chorale.
As a composer, William’s choral work Feet Searching for Sound was premiered at Carnegie Hall in April 2024. His chamber work In Memoriam: Miki Gorman premiered at Lincoln Center in May 2024. His Moonrise was the winning piece in the 2016 Los Angeles Master Chorale Young Composers Contest and was premiered at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
William graduated with honors from the Herb Alpert School of Music at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied piano. As a student of David Hayes at the Mannes School of Music, William received the MM in Orchestral Conducting and was recognized with the Carl Schachter Award in conducting. Currently, William is continuing his studies with David Hayes at Mannes in the Professional Diploma program.
