The Los Robles Master Chorale under the direction Artistic Director Lesley Leighton has commissioned William Cabison’s Loam (2017) for unaccompanied SATB chorus. In its 17/18 season closer Lauridsen & Co., LRMC will perform the world premiere at 16:00 and 20:00 on 20 May, 2017, at the Church of Epiphany in Oak Park, California.

The concert will also premiere the choral works of fellow UCLA-student composers Vittorio Russo and Nick Carlozzi.

“Loam” is Cabison’s musical rendition of a poem of the same name by Carl Sandburg. The title refers to a type of fertile soil;

to Cabison, the earthy visual became the inspiration for a piece about optimism in a time of political unrest.
